Make new friends, support the 1 in 5 affected by lung disease, and join the fun! Our event would not be possible without volunteers. We’re fortunate to have a dedicated team in place, but always have room for new members!

•    Please indicate if you can volunteer Day 1 (Saturday, Sept 7), Day 2 (Sunday, Sept 8) or both days.

VOLUNTEER ROLES
Rest stops
Duties:
  • You will be responsible for:
    • Meeting with your team in the morning before heading off to the rest stop location
    • checking in with the site custodian (if any)
    • setting up the rest stop
    • putting up signage
    • preparing food items and arranging everything on the table
    • cleaning up the rest stop
    • proceeding to the Finish Line once the Final Sweep Van has arrived and told you can leave.
    • Please ensure that you bring everything back with you from the Rest Stop 
Route marshal
Duties:
  • Standing at your designated location on the route and ensuring that trekkers do not go the wrong way
  • Helping trekkers to cross any major intersections at your location
  • Remaining at your location until the Final Sweep arrives and tells you that the last trekker has passed and you can proceed to the finish line.
  • Please DO NOT stop traffic at any time 
 
Please note – It is very important that you remain at your designated intersection for the duration of your shift.  These intersections are deemed either dangerous for crossing or confusing for directions.  
ARRIVAL DESK
Duties:
  • Set-up the Arrival Desk with the supplies 
  • As trekkers approach the table, congratulate them on finishing the first day of Trek and make sure they have had their photo taken
  • Give them their Stillwood package and explain to them what's inside
  • Ask them if there are any problems with their bike that they want Dunbar Cycles to take a look at and if so then have them fill out a Bike Repair sheet and tell them to stick it in their tire spokes 
  • Show them the boards that have the bunking lists, Stillwood maps and Event Itinerary on them; answer any questions that they may have
  • Tell them about snacks which are located over at the Maple Lodge
  • Tell them how to get to the Bike Shelter and explain that they can claim their gear at the shelter and then proceed to their cabin 
registration
Duties: 
  • Setting up registration area
  • Registering Trekkers
  • Collecting donations
  • Informing Trekkers of important event details
  • Cleaning-up the registration area
  • More specific role training will be provided by your supervisor at the event 
finish line cheerleader
Duties:
  • Cheering for the trekkers as they cross the finish line of day 1 and 2
  • Checking off the trekkers’ numbers as they cross
  • Directing trekkers to the Trekker photo area
  • Assisting photographers with the Trekker photos
  • Making sure that any trekkers who require medical assistance are taken car
bike shed
Duties: 
  • Ask participants if there are any problems with their bike that they want Dunbar Cycles to take a look at and if so then have them fill out a Bike Repair sheet and tell them to stick it in their tire spokes once their bike is parked
  • Help them place their bike in the Bike Shelter and explain that they can claim their gear at the shelter and then proceed to their cabin
  • Help place bikes on the barricades inside the Bike Shelter ​
gear loader/unloader
Duties
Saturday:
  • Loading trekkers’ gear into the 5-ton truck, loading any food items, water bottles, event supplies, etc that will be needed at Stillwood camp
  • Unloading the gear at Stillwood camp, ensuring that the bags are placed in neat rows on top of tarps.
  • Greeting trekkers as they arrive and helping them find their bags. 
 
Sunday:
  • On Sunday morning at Stillwood, you will be responsible for loading trekkers’ gear back into the 5-ton truck and loading any other event supplies into the truck.
  • Unloading the gear into the Registration tent at Hazelmere and ensuring bags are placed in neat rows on top of tarps
  • ​Unloading all other gear and supplies from truck into tent so that the 5-ton truck can be returned empty to Budget.
