Every year, for 35 years, several hundred ‘Trekkers’ have shown up road-trip-ready to ride for the 1 in 5; that is the 1 in 5 Canadians affected by lung disease including asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer. Bicycle Trek, and the funds it helps raise, provide COVID-19 support, vital research, advocacy and patient support programs. Since the event began, Trekkers have raised $7 million to help Canadians breathe easier.
COVID-19 support. The 1 in 5 are the most vulnerable to acute illness if they get COVID-19. As restrictions gradually ease for the rest of us, they will be forced to stay at home. Until there is a vaccine, they need our help to stay protected.
Life-changing research. The BC Lung Association provides approximately $1 million each year to physicians and scientists conducting research right here in BC. Exchanging, collaborating and conferring as never before, our researchers are breaking down barriers and pushing the limits of what is possible. This video demonstrates one of many ways BC researchers, thanks to your support, are saving lives.
Patient support & education. Lung disease affects men, women, children, smokers, non-smokers and individuals who have never smoked. The BC Lung Association helps by organizing educational webinars, workshops, forums and supporting a province-wide Better Breathers support group network for both patients and caregivers.
Issues advocacy. If we want to see a world where everyone can breathe clean air with healthy lungs, we need to gather an unstoppable force of determined advocates. Help us light a fire under policy makers to ensure that lung health is made a top priority and given the funding it deserves.
